How to register

The registration form for the 2026 African Wildlife: Health, Physical & Chemical Restraint (3-10 August 2026) is available here. The registration will be closed as the maximum number of participants has been reached. Preferably, all participants should register before 15 February 2026.


Eligible participants

The course is open for vets and veterinary students with an interest in wildlife medicine and conservation. Medium to advanced English language are a must.

The meeting point for the start of the summer school is in Harare, Zimbabwe.

What to bring

Ideally, bring with you the following items: insect repellent (recommended DEET based), sunscreen (high SPF), binocular, comfortable light clothes and shoes (there is no specific dress code) for the day and warm clothes for the evening and nights (in August is winter in Zimbabwe, and temperature in Harare may be as low as 7°C). Consider for the field work to wear clothing with natural colors and patterns (i.e. military or kaki green) and avoid strident patterns or colors (i.e. red, pink, yellow, etc.). Please also bring with you a classic or electronic notebook in order to take notes during the course. 


Health issues

Please ensure you have a valid vaccination certificate with you. Presenting a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at the border control is mandatory. Additional recommended vaccines are: typhoid fever, cholera, hepatitis A and B and rabies, but the decision of vaccination is responsibility of the participant. Malaria preventives are also recommended. Please check with your general practitioner or travel medicine specialist any other specific prophylactic measures. Please also ensure that you have any medication you might need with you, as buying them locally might be not possible. 


Price: For international participants 2350 € (see below what the fee covers). Confirmation is done by a payment of the full registration fee, not later than 30 days after the pro-forma invoice is issued.

Re-funding policy: 80% until 28 February 2026; 50% until 30 April 2026.

Number of participants: 15-20 international and 5-10 local (max. 25). Places are limited and participants are accepted in the order of the payment. Please note there is a very high demand. 


What the fee covers:

  • access to all activities & training materials
  • accommodation (only for international participants)
  • local transportations related to the course
  • all meals during the course duration (see detailed program)
  • access fees to the locations for practical activities


The fees do NOT cover:

  • international airfare
  • airport transfer
  • medical/travel/health insurance
  • alcoholic drinks
  • any other expenses not mentioned above
