Three pioneering clinical trials on the field efficacy of isoxazolines on lice in pets

Together with Boehringer Ingelheim (BI), we carried out a series of clinical trials on the effectiveness of modern treatments against lice in dogs and cats. These studies show not only how well the products work, but also our ability to run reliable research in very different parts of the world.
The first study took place in Romania, where we tested afoxolaner (NexGard®) on dogs naturally infested with Trichodectes canis. Over 30 days, we followed 43 dogs and found that a single oral dose was enough to clear all infestations. Read the full publication here.
We then moved to Kenya, in the remote Samburu region, where village dogs were heavily infested with Heterodoxus spiniger. Working in close contact with local communities, we showed once again that oral afoxolaner completely eliminated the lice within 30 days. Read the full publication here.
Our work with BI also extended to cats. In Romania, we studied Felicola subrostratus, the only louse that infests domestic cats. Using a topical product (NexGard Combo®), we treated naturally infested cats and achieved a full cure in every case. Read the full study here.
