21/08/2025

At the 30th Conference of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP), held in Curitiba, Brazil (August 17–21, 2025), Prof. Andrei Daniel Mihalca presented an oral communication in the Companion Animal Parasitology session.

His talk, "Parasites of domestic dogs in traditional societies of sub-Saharan Africa: need for interventions vs. coexistence and conservation of evolutionary processes", explored the complex balance between animal health, human livelihoods, and biodiversity.

By drawing on extensive field experience in Africa, the presentation highlighted how parasite management strategies must be adapted to cultural and ecological contexts, underlining the importance of integrating One Health and conservation perspectives into veterinary parasitology.
