Invited lecture on Heartworm Disease in a Changing Epidemiological Landscape

n 13 June 2026, our Director, Prof. Andrei D. Mihalca, was an invited speaker at a Heartworm Seminar organised by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

The meeting was dedicated to heartworm disease and brought together veterinary professionals for an update on current epidemiological, diagnostic and preventive aspects of canine filarial infections.

Prof. Mihalca contributed with a lecture focused on the changing epidemiology of heartworm disease, the increasing relevance of vector-borne parasitic infections in Central and Eastern Europe, and the importance of adapting diagnostic and preventive strategies to local transmission risk.

The seminar provided an opportunity to connect recent scientific evidence with practical decision-making in companion-animal medicine and to discuss the challenges posed by the continuing expansion of mosquito-borne parasites.
