Facilitating field data collection on Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever in Romania

01/09/2025

Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne disease of increasing concern in Europe. In Romania, the virus has been detected in animals and ticks, but no human cases have been reported so far — a paradox that raises important questions for science and public health.

The TICKRISK project explores how risk is produced, communicated, and managed, combining anthropology, epidemiology, and veterinary sciences. Fieldwork is focused in the Danube Delta and Tulcea region, where livestock, migratory birds, and human activity create favorable conditions for tick circulation.

Parasitology Consultancy Group supported the project by assisting in field data collection. Our contribution included providing relevant local contacts within veterinary and public health structures, which helped facilitate access to communities and authorities.
