Bringing One Health into the Classroom | Tulcea 2026

Following the first stage of the educational project carried out in Ilfov County in May 2026, our team continued the "Connections for a Healthy Life Together" initiative in Tulcea County between 8 and 10 June 2026.

Supported by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, the project brings veterinary health education directly into primary schools, with a strong focus on rabies prevention, parasite control, responsible pet ownership and the One Health concept.

During the three days in Tulcea County, our team reached more than 1,000 primary-school pupils from 11 schools, covering Tulcea municipality and the localities of Jurilovca, Babadag, Frecăței, Jijila, Văcăreni, Măcin, Greci, Turcoaia and Dorobanțu.

The sessions were designed as interactive discussions rather than conventional lectures. Using familiar examples and age-adapted explanations, we discussed how rabies is transmitted and prevented, why vaccination and parasite control are essential, how some parasites can be transmitted between animals and humans, and why responsible care of companion animals also contributes to protecting families and communities.

The Tulcea activities represented the second stage of a broader educational programme initiated in Ilfov County in May 2026, where the project had already reached 926 pupils from 37 classes in 10 schools across 10 communities.

Through this programme, our team aims to translate veterinary and One Health knowledge into clear, practical messages for children and to encourage responsible attitudes towards animals, disease prevention and community health from an early age.

The initiative will continue in additional counties during 2026, extending the programme to new schools and communities.
